Re: Uncharted Worlds Post-Mortem

I really like the direction of the design thread! Is it okay to comment in the thread itself? Absolutely! By all means. Another post-mortem thing I wanted to bring up is that UW doesn't have any rules for handheld tools or other such artifacts. For example, if you wanted to have something like a tr...

How happy were you about the meanings of the stats?
I updated the design thread about this, if you want to take a look. I'd appreciate your first impressions.

Re: UW2 Design Thread

So I got to thinking about what BlckKnght posted in the Post Mortem thread , about the stat-to-action distribution. After a bit of retooling and a lot of discussion with my weekly design group (formerly my weekly RP group but we haven't actually thrown dice in a while, we mostly talk design), I'm go...

Re: Uncharted Worlds Post-Mortem

Thanks for the feedback! And welcome. :) It's good to know that the flexibility of the modular design does have its fans. Creating a more focused experience without losing too much of that freedom will be an interesting balancing act, for sure.

Re: Uncharted Worlds Post-Mortem

How happy were you about the meanings of the stats? Funnily enough, a lot of this was a recent discussion with my regular playgroup, so it's rather fresh in my mind. From a design standpoint, I think you're right. The Stats were the first thing that came together when I first started hacking Apocal...

Re: Uncharted Worlds Post-Mortem

Something worth bringing up, is that the more you try to lock Uncharted Worlds into a specific setting, the harder the game is to play and enjoy. I've often looked into running a Star Wars or Star Trek game in the system, and I find that every time I have to pregen characters, write setting and pla...

UW2 Design Thread

I’m sure it comes as no surprise that I’ve been tinkering with some sort of UW2 for a while now. The post-mortem I posted was the first step towards that; identifying the weak and strong points of the system, tightening up the loose mechanics. I thought I’d share what I have so far. Please note that...

Re: What are you working on?

It should come as no surprise that I've been working on improving Uncharted Worlds. And I think I'm ready to show some of what I have cooking.

Re: Uncharted Worlds Post-Mortem

That's a real interesting take Vinyl... I'll have to mull that one over, but I'm really digging the "level up the group/ship" as a means of expressing growth.

Re: Uncharted Worlds Post-Mortem

Part III - WHAT SORTA WORKED, SORTA DIDN’T (CHARACTERS) Stat Ranges: The lower stat range (capped at +2) was an overall positive, in my books. Full successes were pretty rare, and there were enough partial successes to keep the chain of events going. That said, because characters starting at +2 and...
