What are you working on?

Want to talk about something non UW-related. This is the place.

Rules apply as usual, but here topics are not restricted to game issues.

What are you working on?

Post by zircher » Thu Jan 31, 2019 3:23 pm

I imagine that this topic can cover UW and non-UW creative efforts. I do rules, solo plays, 3d modelling/graphics, computer programming, and papercraft. So, I might be all over the place as the Muse strikes me.

I make a huge list of creative projects as part of my new year's resolution, but it funny how other things pop up unintended. I wanted to so a sci-fi solo play for No GM's Sky (based or Traveller and Cepheus Engine), but I also wanted to do a (solo?) play by post on the forums here. So, two birds one solution, re-write No GM's Sky almost from scratch to make it UW friendly. Yeah, that wasn't the to-do list. Hey, it's only 200+ entries on the main encounter table... :-D

And, just now I came up with an idea for a new web toy (a javascript based random tables thing I do) based on Sean's FBH vessels system. Excited about both projects. Now I only need to shoe horn some more dev time into my life.

When I am not installing a forum, I tend to alternate between:
  • Web-design in general
  • Chronicling the life of my family (scrapbooking)
  • Sewing stuff, either costumes for my children, repairing clothes, or creating stuff from old clothing
  • Making cold-process soap from, among other things, left-over cooking fats
  • Making chainmail-based jewelry
I am also registered at a local weaving guild, but haven't had the time to weave in quite a while.

Role-playing isn't on that list, but I do tend to make my way to the MTL Comic-Con (usually with Sean). In the past, I have run D&D campaigns, and ran two LARPS, but those days are long gone now.

Oh, and I have a full-time job.

I mostly write larps. ATM I'm about to start editing "Property & Propriety", a Regency-era larp of romance, vaccination, and land enclosure. When I'm not writing larps, I do marketing and management for them, via the NZLARPS.

On the UW front, Star Trek: Discovery is making me think of ideas for big ship campaigns, and I might try and tinker around with those a bit. Some time I should probably do a book on station campaigns, but I'm worried it would be too similar to Colonies.

I'm in the midst of writing urban adventuring rules for Torchbearer to drop with a custom setting reminiscent of Planescpe or Throne from Kill Six Billion Demons.

Woof, that Uncharted Worlds version of No GM's Sky is taking some effort. I'm basically converting Traveller stats into something like mini-jump points.

For example...

Code: Select all

[ ]	141	A tiny world with a very thin atmosphere and ice patches on the dark side. The planet is tidally locked
with a thin green zone at the planetary terminator. Asteroids and a gas giant are present. Low gravity and
constant winds favor what kind of flyer? How are they a threat?

[ ]	142	A small world with a standard atmosphere and good sized oceans. It’s too small to be considered a
garden world, it might serve as an outpost for some corporate interests. Asteroids and a gas giant are
present. The low gravity supports what common features in the flora and fauna? What kind of ruins did
	the natives leave behind? Ruins+1

[ ]	143	A tiny airless moon is about the only solid surface in this system. It’s really just a big rock
captured by one of the gas giants eons ago. It has a great view of the rings. What precautions do sight
seekers need to take? What unusual thing is happening in the main gas giant’s atmosphere?

[ ]	144	A small world with a thin tainted atmosphere and extensive ice sheets. It is a harsh world going
through a major ice age. Asteroids and a gas giant are present. What kind of mega fauna can be found
here for study or hunting? What is their peculiar reaction to strangers?

[ ]	145	A small world with no atmosphere or water. Asteroids and a gas giant are present. What caused the
extensive network of craters? What system anomaly is present?

[ ]	146	A tiny world with a trace atmosphere and no water. Close proximity to the main star has blown most
of this planet's atmosphere off. Asteroids and a gas giant are present. What unusual effect is the star’s
radiation having on the ship? How long before things get critical?

Progress continues on the No GM's Sky re-write. Hit the 50% point in the main encounter table.

Had to take a break for some other projects and now back at it. Crossed over the 70% mark for the system encounters.

It should come as no surprise that I've been working on improving Uncharted Worlds. And I think I'm ready to show some of what I have cooking.
